Trendy + Easy At-Home Mani’s To Do This Weekend

Break out your nail polish stash and get creative this weekend. After falling in a rabbit hole of talented nail artists months ago, I’ve been experimenting with EASY nail art. I’m really emphasizing the easy here. Your girl cannot do fancy flowers or intricate designs. So the three styles I’ve really latched onto are the gradient, mismatched, and negative space manis.

I love that all three of these are doable and look so intentional and cool. Bonus points to the fact you really don’t need tools to accomplish the look. While the negative space mani take a little practice, it’s still fun and oh so Instagram-worthy.

Three Trendy + Easy Manicures to Do This Weekend

Gradient

There is always one or two colors we tend to hoard in our nail kits, which means you have quite a few varying shades at your disposal. Simply order them from darkest to light. It’s a subtle, yet fun look that is one of the easiest ways to spice up your at-home mani.

Mismatched

The mismatched mani is fun and one I’ve actually done multiple times. Dig around for complimentary colors or similar shades and paint each nail a different color. However, say you don’t have five varying colors that work together - well, don’t worry. There’s a the four color ‘rule.’ Match the thumb and ring finger colors together. This will give you a visually appealing look and not seem like you’re onto a true pattern. Think of it as strategically mismatched.

Negative Space

The negative space mani. My love. There are a few ways this can be done - freehand (not as scary as it may seem), with tape, random stickers, or hey, maybe a bandaid would work, Macgyver. I remember in high school trying to give myself a French manicure with the stickers that repaired ripped hole punches in your college ruled paper. Whatever you’re working with, cover the space or area you want to remain colorless and go for it. I highly recommend having a q-tip on hand to clean any lines and finishing it up with a top coat. Not only does it seal in the color, but it really elevates the nude part of the nail.
